Winter Skin Care Tips

Winter is not fun for the skin. Cold weather and low humidity levels result in dry air, which then steals moisture away from the skin every second of every day. But that doesn’t mean you go through winter with bad skin. Here are a few tips for glowing skin in winter. Don’t worry, the winter face care tips are not complicated. In fact, they are every day actions that will help your skin face the season with courage.

Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize.

Light moisturizers might work fine for you during the spring and summertime. But when the weather changes, you should also alter your skin care routine. Ideally, an oil-based moisturizer that contains ‘facial-skin friendly’ oils, such as almond oil, avocado oil or primrose oil will serve you best in winter, rather than its water-based counterparts.

Exfoliate

We often forget to help the skin slough off dead cells in the winter, particularly on our hands. Yet moisture can’t get in if the dead cells are too plentiful. Find an exfoliating mask and use it on your face and your hands, as well as gently on your lips, then follow immediately with moisture to truly see a smoother difference. Exfoliating body washes are also helpful in the winter months.

Keep Hyderated

You might have heard a thousand times that, drinking water is hood for your skin health. Now, it’s time you learn the fact from the truth- drinking water is great for your overall health; and your skin is a reflection of how you are doing! Dry skin loses a lot of moisture. Keep drinking water regularly to keep your body and skin hydrated.

Sunscreen Is A Must

People like to enjoy the sun during winter but little do they know that winter sun can be just as damaging as summer sun and hasten ageing. It might sound like that we are pointing out the obvious but do not ever forget to Sunscreen. One must use a sunscreen 15 minutes before going out in order to allow the skin to absorb it. If you stay out in the sun for more than 30 minutes, reapply the sunscreen.

Use DIY Masks

Homemade hydrating masks can provide needed moisture in the winter months. Use natural moisturizing ingredients like honey, avocado, yogurt, olive and jojoba oils, almond oil, bananas, and aloe. Mix what you like together to create a cream or paste, and leave on skin for 10-30 minutes for lasting hydration.

This winters, let love your hair

Winter is  already at our doorstep! So, what are you waiting for – thank the stars for finally stopping all the heat damage that your hair was going through! It is also time to start planning a hair care routine that is fit for winter. During these jack frost months, cold outdoor weather combined with dry indoor heat can wreak havoc on your strands, leading to split ends and breakage. To help you sparkle this season, we bring you few precautions that will keep your locks silky and lustrous.

Control Frizz

One of the most annoying things about winter is all of the static. The hoodies, sweater, gloves, and beanies all seem to gang up on your hair, making it a static, frizzy mess. To tackle this, use a vented hair brush that has a combination of plastic and boar bristles while combing your hair. Wash your hair only with lukewarm water, not hot water, as the latter will strip away the natural oils that protect and nourish your hair. Apply a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair smooth.

blow dry: do it right

During the winter months we tend to use heated appliances more. Too much heat on the hair can cause further moisture loss, so by adding a little extra effort into your blow dry, this will cut down the amount of times you will apply heat to your hair.

medicated shampoo

If you find that your hair is extremely flaky, we would recommend that you buy a medicated shampoo containing salicylic acid. After putting in the shampoo, stimulate the scalp by massaging lightly with a brush. This will increase blood circulation and help to keep a flaky scalp at bay.

warm oil to moisturise your scalp and hair

There are hot-oil products on the market but you can also use olive oil. Warm it slightly and massage into your scalp and hair. Leave it on your hair for one to two hours and then shampoo out. Don’t worry if you don’t get every bit of the oil out of your scalp; it will continue to moisturise and condition your hair and scalp.

Shine And Bounce

The lack of moisture in winter not only dries out your scalp and makes your hair frizzy, but also leaves your hair looking dull and lifeless. Brush or comb out your hair with a wide-toothed wooden comb to remove tangles and apply raw honey to the length of your hair from the roots to the tips. Cover up your hair with a shower cap or towel and leave it on for about 30 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water. Honey is a humectant that seals in the moisture and helps restore shine and bounce to dull and damaged hair.

With the fall coming, let the latest crop of celebrity hair-cuts and styles inspire your own autumnal trim or perhaps a full-on chop! Like for all our beauty and fashion woes, our best solution is always to turn to Bollywood. Because who better than our favorite actresses to take inspiration from on the latest hair trends?

So, here are some of the biggest hair trends we’ve seen recently on Bollywood celebrity Instagrams, and we’re dying to try them.

All That’s Curly

Hairstyle-trends

No matter what your hair length, embrace your natural hair texture or get your hands on a curler because pretty much everyone in Bollywood already has. Who doesn’t love carefree, loose curls? Take it up a notch by making a deep part and pinning the underneath to one side, giving it an old Hollywood glamour look. This hairstyle pairs well with an Indian or western outfit, making it a great stress-free option.

Sleek Slicked Back

This sophisticated look is one of this season’s most worn celebrity hairstyles for formal events. It’s a clean, sleek style that works with any formal attire. Switch it up by changing the part, and always remember to tuck it behind your ears for a fresh take. It’s perfect paired with statement jewellery, so wear it with a chunky necklace or extra large hoops.

Hun Buns

The perfect, no-fuss hairstyle comes in handy when you’re in a hurry, the half-up bun or the hun bun looks amazing, is super easy, and crazy popular with celebrities as well.

Twisted

Worn most commonly in an updo, twists have long been a classic hairstyle for formal events, but try a modern take by keeping your hair down. Go for one large twist on one side or multiple small twists for a contemporary and youthful feel.

The High Pony

Slick your hair up. All the way up. Done in rumpled texture or stick-straight, the high ponytail adds both an elegance and ease to every ensemble. Bonus: the tighter you secure it, the more lifted your face looks (but maybe pop an Advil or two first).

Now the next time you head out for or visit your stylist, don’t forget to show her your favorite Bollywood inspiration to go by, get the look and rock that outing!
